EOTO organizes Global Handwashing Day (GHD)

Global Handwashing Day (GHD) is a campaign to motivate and mobilize millions around the world to wash their hands with soap. It takes place on October 15 of each year. The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness of hand-washing with soap as a key approach to disease prevention. The theme for Global Hand washing Day’s inaugural year was Focus on School Children. The members pledged to get the maximum number of school children hand washing with soap in more than 70 countries.
On this occasion Each One Teach One Charitable Foundation along with Shangri-La Hotel organized an awareness program in Shishuvihar School, Dadar in their assembly hall. Shangri-La Hotel installed 6 soap dispensers in the washrooms of the school and also demonstrated to the 250 school children and their teachers “how to wash hands”.
The purpose of the program was to create a healthy habit in the children contributing to their health.

On 7th October, 2012, Each One Teach One organized a Fund Raising Program –
A Musical Evening by a renowned singer, Ms. Sanjeevani Bhelande at Manik Sabhagriha, Bandra. A versatile singing by Sanjeevani mixed with mesmerizing expressions kept the audience captive. On this occasion a souvenir was released highlighting the achievements of the organization over the period of past 29 years. Each One Teach One has an academic support program to rural students in Palghar and Neral. The money raised will be spent on providing support to more number of rural students in these areas.

10 Volunteer employees from Mphasis Ltd., Mumbai along with a team of 2 doctors organized a dental and general health checkup camp for the students of Tata Compound Municipal School where EOTO has its support program. The volunteers also had recreational activities for the children as well as a movie was screened emphasizing the importance of good healthy habits. The children had a nice time with Mphasis Volunteers who made their day.

The students from Tardeo Municipal School participated in a session wherein they learnt how to make eco-friendly Ganapati. The children enjoyed the making of Ganapati. The volunteers from Sanskar India Foundation gave the children a demonstration of making the Eco-Friendly Ganapati with river bank soil. Student volunteers from SNDT University helped the students to prepare the material for the same.

A session on Health and Nutrition was organized for the students of Tardeo Municipal School. 27 students from Marathi and Gujarati medium participated in the session. The topics covered were :
· Good habits for maintaining hygiene and health
· Good practices in day to day life.
· Importance of nutritious food and its contents.
· Tooth brushing and hand washing activity.
The students participated in the discussion actively. They also enjoyed the activities taken.

A Science Workshop was organized for the students of Tata Compound Municipal School on “Differentiating Elements and Compounds through Illustrations”. Being an interactive session , the students were well involved and enjoyed the hands on experiments. The workshop was very informative in which the basics were cleared. The children came up with many questions which were answered along with the examples.

Mr. Rajiv Vartak from Institute of Science Education conducted a Math Workshop at Shishuvihar School, Dadar for the students of Std. VII to IX. The topic of the workshop was simple and complex equations in Algebra. The session was interactive one and helped the student to understanding the concepts and their application. The same workshop was conducted in other centres of EOTO.

On 1st March, a recreational party was organized for 130 children of the school in which the children enthusiastically participated in a number of games. The children were given nice gifts and a sumptuous snacks on this occasion. It was a fun day for the children in which they had a real good time.

A session on Story Telling through puppets was conducted by Ms. Anjali Gokarn & Ms. Kavita Bhatia from Vishwa Education Trust for the students of Tardeo Municipal School. Both the resource people are Clinical Psychologists. The stories were interactive ones with morals. During the sessions role plays and puppets were used which made it more effective.

EOTO & Toy Bank
EOTO has a tie up with TOY BANK, an NGO donating toys for recreational activities. EOTO opened its second centre of Toy Library at Rajawadi Municipal School.
Toy bank donated a lot of games and toys for the library which were on display. A small training session on how to play various games and toys was explained to the teachers. Students were allowed to play with them for a while. The children had a joyful time on this occasion. Toy Library has become a regular recreational activity now. The event held in the presence of Toy Bank coordinator, Ms. Farnaza and EOTO staff and teachers.

Eye Checkup Camps organized by EOTO on 5th and 19th February, 2012
Eye Checkup Camps were held for the students from various EOTO Centres. Dr. Navin Gupta, an Ophthalmologist and his assistants conducted the checkup generously on voluntary basis. During the Eye Camp, basic vision screening of students was conducted. Students who were diagnosed with vision problems were given prescription cards and were asked to visit Dr. Navin’s clinic for further treatment.

EOTO had a fund raising event named EOTO FETE
EOTO had a fund raising event named EOTO FETE – A fun filled experience for kids of all age at Joss Banquet, Fort. The event involved display of 12 stalls from various vendors selling shopping items for kids as well as fun activities. More than 500 kids visited the place and had a wonderful time. The event started at 11 a.m. with an inauguration by Ms. Sharmila Paranjape, Managing Trustee, Wipro Care and ended at 8 p.m. EOTO got a rich support from the volunteers from Ambuja Cement and Veeda Clinical Research Pvt. Ltd. It also created a lot of awareness about EOTO and its activities for the underprivileged children.

Dr. Marc, a practicing Psychologist from USA and Ms. Asha Dutia , a personal counselor, conducted a Map Making Workshop for the students of Tardeo Municipal School where EOTO started its support program recently. The children learnt how to do mapping of their area. It formed a good background for the students to learn maps of Indian states, India and the World Map. It was also an effective pedagogical technique of going from known to unknown which our teachers can use in their regular teaching. The method was creative which the children enjoyed a lot.

Dr. Marc and Ms. Dutia also conducted a workshop for EOTO teachers at Sahyadri Nisarg Jeevan Sanstha at Badlapur. It addressed the issues like discipline of students during the class, involving students in learning process and how to face the change in the organization in a positive way.
Opportunities for rural children of Palghar

EOTO has gone a long way in creating opportunities for rural children of Palghar by carrying out academic and extra-curricular activities for these children. An annual picnic is one such extra-curricular activity which the students cherish a lot.
On 6th January, 2012, 225 students of Class X from various schools in Palghar were taken for Mumbai Darshan. They visited prominent spots like Nehru Planetarium, Nehru Science Centre and Iskon Temple. They children had a real good time at the show on Milky Way at Planetarium and science games at Nehru Centre. It was a joyful learning experience for the students which is going to develop scientific spirit in them.
